The Creation of a True Partnership
To remain competitive and to keep up with the ever changing business climate, the City of Denton and the Denton Chamber of Commerce joined forces in 1987 and entered into a formal agreement to establish a joint Economic Development Partnership. The Chamber's staff coordinates marketing and recruitment efforts; City staff serves as liaison to the Board, manages incentives, and oversees business retention and Downtown programs. Working together, we create business opportunities and address the needs of our expanding community. Through the years this partnership has proved to be a successful and beneficial endeavor.
The Economic Development Board was created in 2003 to oversee the activities of both the City and Chamber Economic Development departments. This came as a recommendation from a national consulting firm to focus on a new direction for Denton.
The four key areas of focus for Economic Development are downtown development; business park development; image and marketing; and UNT Research Park.
Areas for targeted marketing are aviation; medical; and research and development.
The partnership is partially funded through an annual contract with the City of Denton. The balance needed to fund the program is raised through additional investments made by dedicated citizens, businesses and other stakeholders whose involvement are vital to our program’s success.
The mission of the Denton Economic Development Partnership is to proactively promote an environment in Denton to encourage commercial and industrial development by expanding and diversifying the tax base, creating jobs, and improving the quality of life.
